Online Zoom Meeting

TO: Member Credit Unions
FROM: Christopher Hammond, Chairman

Please join us for an online meeting experience on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, for the 83rd Mississippi Credit Union League Annual Business Meeting.

In place of the 2020 Mississippi Credit Union Association Conference, our 2020 Annual Business Meeting will be the first in a series of three one-hour online events with the theme 20/20 VISION: Forward Focused.

These online experiences are available at no cost to all MSCUA member credit union staff and volunteers and can be conveniently enjoyed from the home or office, by way of computer, tablet, or smartphone.

The special messages that will be delivered will inspire us to re-focus our vision of the year 2020’s potential and the opportunities (even if they may seem hidden) it provides credit unions to put our philosophy to action!

As with an in-person business meeting, credit unions may designate two Delegates & two Alternates for the purposes of the Annual Business Meeting.  Meeting log-ins are unique for each individual, so a unique email address is required for each designate.

To designate your credit union’s Delegates & Alternates, download and complete an authorization form and return it by email or fax by the September 30, 2020, deadline.  Download the form as a WORD DOC HERE or a PDF HERE.

All Delegates & Alternates will receive an annual business meeting information and report packet by email prior to the meeting.  Delegates & Alternates will also receive an event reminder, which will include their unique log-in link & instructions, by email 24-hours prior to the business meeting.

EMERGE: Now is the time to learn from yesterday, live for today, and emerge smarter, stronger, and more FOCUSED!
Steve Gilliland, Hall of Fame Speaker

Wednesday, October 7, 10:00 a.m.

The challenges we face in life will test our courage and willingness to change. As individuals, it is not the mountains we must conquer, but ourselves. While we continue to face many unknowns, it is crucial we develop the right mindset to persist and emerge strong-minded from challenging times. EMERGE is a timely and eye-opening message that centers on how to navigate on a course that we never planned, into a future we never imagined.

Key Points

  • Gratitude – When we face a challenge, gratitude provides a perspective from which we can view life in its entirety and not be overwhelmed by temporary circumstances
  • Confidence – Challenges are spikes in that imaginary limitation barrier that guide you to awareness and confidence. Life’s experiences can make you better and stronger, and more confident
  • Determination – Remember your why! It is tremendously helpful in those stressful moments when nothing seems to be working right, and you’re tempted to retreat to where you started

Takeaway Message
Now is the time to learn from yesterday, live for today, and emerge smarter, stronger, and more FOCUSED!

The Speaker
A member of the Speaker Hall of Fame, Steve Gilliland is one of the most in-demand and top-rated speakers in the world. Recognized as a master storyteller and brilliant comedian, he can be heard daily on SiriusXM Radio’s Laugh USA and Jeff & Larry’s Comedy Roundup. With an appeal that transcends barriers of age, culture and occupation—plus an interactive and entertaining style—Steve shows audiences how to open doors to success in their careers, their relationships and their lives. Presenting to over 250,000 people a year, more than two million have now heard him speak, with audiences encompassing 51 industries. Steve has the distinction of speaking in all 50 states and in 15 countries. As one newspaper stated, “Steve is what happens when the humor of a stand-up comic collides with the inspiration of a motivational speaker.”

The Author
In addition to his brilliant speaking career, Steve is a prolific, accomplished author, evidenced by six of his books—Detour, Enjoy The Ride, Hide Your Goat, Making a Difference, The Cherry on Top and Turn the Page— perennially making the publisher’s bestseller list and his being named Author of the Year. His thought-provoking writing style makes his articles a favorite with prominent national magazines. He influences the lives of millions through his presentations, books, audio products and videos. An extensive array of these resources has been utilized by small businesses, Fortune 500 companies, U.S. and Canadian government agencies, trade associations, churches, school districts and nonprofit organizations. Speaking the language of active business leaders, his books and other resources identify practical lessons that grow people and their businesses.

The Businessman
Steve built a multimillion-dollar company from the ground up on the same philosophy he expounds to his audiences. If you continually learn more about your company, your industry, your customer and yourself, you will always be a leader. You will be purpose-driven rather than process-driven, and you will make a difference. His motto is straightforward: “If you take care of people, the business will follow.” He has been recognized by Who’s Who for Speakers and Business Professionals, and The Pittsburgh Business Times named his company one of the fastest-growing privately held companies in the region. Steve also serves on the board of directors for a financial institution, and he and his wife Diane launched the Gilliland Foundation in 2017 to provide funding that creates lasting solutions for causes they are passionate about.

The Person
Steve was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area, resides in North Carolina and travels throughout the world. He received his bachelor’s degree from Grove City College. He is a proud grandpa, devoted father of four boys and a loving husband to Diane. He learned great compassion for people and a commitment to a hard work and balanced life ethic at the knee of his highly principled Christian mother. Whether Steve is speaking at an event, writing about current issues that impact others or leading his own employees, he is not just a person who challenges people to change, he motivates them to do so. Steve’s personal vision is to wake up every morning and, through humor and inspiration, help others to discover and develop their potential and live life to fullness.

The Guarantee
Everyone who hears his message leaves with a renewed sense of enthusiasm for who they are and for what really matters.

Amy Downs, OKC Bombing Survivor, Credit Union CEO, and Motivational Speaker

Wednesday, October 14, 10:00 a.m.

Amy Downs was one of the last survivors’ to be pulled from the rubble of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing in which a total of 168 people were killed, including 18 of her 33 co-workers. While buried alive and waiting to die, she realized she had never really lived. Once freed from the rubble, Amy launched a self-improvement campaign.

Amy shares with you how to apply what she learned on her journey from a 355lb teller who dropped out of college to obtaining her Masters in Business Administration, becoming the CEO, and completing an Ironman Triathlon. This call to action will leave you inspired, ignited with hope, and with new ideas on how to achieve your goals.

Amy Downs was one of the last survivors to be pulled from the rubble of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing in which a total of 168 people were killed, including 18 of her 33 co-workers. While buried alive and waiting to die, she realized she had never really lived. Once freed from the rubble, Downs promised God she would never live her life the same.

She began her career as a teller 32 years ago, working for Federal Employees Credit Union located in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. At the time of the bombing, Downs was a credit card loan officer who flunked out of college and weighed more than 350 pounds.

In the coming years, she’d not only lose 200 pounds, but become a triathlete—and even compete in an Ironman Triathlon. She’d not only go back to school, but she’d graduate with a Masters of Business Administration. She’d not only get promoted by Federal Employees Credit Union (who would soon change their name to Allegiance Credit Union) but she eventually became its CEO—an award winning CEO, no less. She didn’t just fulfill her promise; she literally ran laps around it.

For nearly twenty years, Amy has been an inspirational subject in national and local media for her survival of the Alfred P. Murrah Building bombing, the deadliest domestic terror attack in our nation’s history. Amy now shares a message more powerful than her survival: her transformation in the aftermath. Her inspirational story of triumphant transformation through evil is a keynote message that will leave the audience feeling inspired and open to growth.
