Biloxi, MS (5/13/22) — Sunbelt Federal Credit Union’s Thomas Williams has been inducted into the Mississippi Credit Union Hall of Fame. Created in 1994, the Mississippi Credit Union Hall of Fame is the state’s highest credit union honor, recognizing individuals that have devoted their life to the philosophy and success of credit unions at the local, state or national level.
Thomas Williams’ volunteer service with Sunbelt Federal Credit Union began in 1986. He has served numerous terms as both board chairman and board vice-chairman and continues to serve as a director today.
During his tenure, Sunbelt Federal Credit union has taken in seven other credit unions and added eleven locations. As a result, the credit union has grown from $10 million to $300 million in assets and now serves more than 38,000 members.
During Thomas’ tenure, Sunbelt Federal Credit Union was recognized as the first credit union in the nation to have the entire board receive the Edward Filene and the Friedrick Raiffeisen Award, which are associated with the Credit Union National Association’s Volunteer Achievement Program.
Thomas was inducted into the Mississippi Credit Union Hall of Fame in May 2022 during the Annual Business Meeting of the Mississippi Credit Union Association, the state trade association for credit unions in Mississippi.
